Catalog of Glacial Communications releases

GLAC-26: Aquacade/Rhyolite

Finally, the first of two planned C10 releases is ready enough that you can pre-order it! Music is recorded and art is 95% done. Now all I have to do is dub them off.

GLAC-26: Aquacade/Rhyolite. The cassette, in an edition of ten, has two tracks: Aquacade,  and predictably enough, Rhyolite. The planned release date is 9/10/11, because it seemed like a good idea at the time and I like dates with patterns to them.  The digital download (which is included with purchase of the cassette, and I’ll give you a code if you buy the cassette at a show or whatever) includes both tracks, as well as some rough versions of the tracks, which in Rhyolite’s case is quite different.

As of right now, I’m planning on having a couple of the cassettes available at the A/V/B show on September 11 (likely the only live show I’m playing this month), so a few are being held in reserve for that, and whatever isn’t sold by then will be available then as well.

Maybe the second C10 (already cataloged as GLAC-27) will be ready by October 9th, so it can be 9/10/11 for Europeans and confuse everyone.

News update – August edition

  • Three shows have happened since the last post- one at SPACES Gallery on May 25th,  a house show at “The Rock Hall, Agharta Branch” May 7th, and bela dubby on July 23rd. I’ll be playing again on August 11th and August 27th, both at bela dubby, and doing a piece that will involve tape in some form at the Audio Visual Baptism event at Now That’s Class on September 11. Rumors of more performances in the October time frame have been heard, but nothing’s set in stone yet.
  • Parallax and Live at the Grog Shop are now available as a single CD-R, called “22/24″. Available via either of those Bandcamp links or at select shows.
  • Debating a name change for dancier/poppier material vs. the noisy experimental stuff. Thought I had a good one lined up, but apparently another local band is using one of the words for their name. Due to this, the August 11th show is just plain booked under my name, which is kind of weird. Stay tuned.
  • A pair of C10s are in the works. As soon as I’ve got material and packaging ready, they’ll make their way into the world. There are further release plans, but these things take time…
  • Why do these things take time? Well, among other things I took the opportunity after the last show to clean & reorganize the studio space. Once the studio is set up “right”, hopefully material will flow a little better. That’s the theory, anyway.
  • Hey, look- new look on the website. Probably not permanent. Also started a page for documenting live appearances.

Recent Happenings (May 2011 Edition)

What’s happened since the last update (Jan. 30th)?

  • Played two shows at bela dubby in February.
  • Did the RPM Challenge album – it’s called Parallax (Catalog #GLAC-22), and you can get it here on Bandcamp, and it features those two February performances and some other new material.
  • Been slowly puttering on building some new gear, but it’s taking a while, with a lot of other projects getting in the way.
  • And lastly, on May 3rd, I played at the Grog Shop, opening for Beats Antique. It was a little surreal to be playing on the same stage where I’ve seen bands like Meat Beat Manifesto play.

In the week or so since I started this post, I’ve gotten the audio from the show cleaned up and available here: Live at the Grog Shop 5/3/2011.

I’ve also started doing some CDR releases of some of the catalog. Currently DIY Volume I and II are available that way (in fancy envelope packaging), and Parallax should be on CDR soon. Available at shows or via Bandcamp soon.

Reissues are complete (and more!)

Before the end of the year, I found time to finish the cleaned-up, bonus track-rich reissues of the last two albums (DIY volumes I and II)

Here’s the player for Volume I (GLAC-18):

(cassettes are still available if you’re interested. Click the ‘Buy’ link for more details. Also, if you already have the cassette, let me know and I’ll send you a download code.)

And the Volume II (GLAC-19) player:

So, you can now find all of the currently released glacial23 material at my bandcamp site.

Next up will be another look through the vault, but this will be “rarities” that haven’t been properly released yet. Heck, if I can find the 4-track tape, there’s a track I recorded in 1998(?) that hasn’t been mixed yet which is my first usage of any DIY gear on a track ever. After that is a planned acid tracks compilation and some other stuff (for sure, a few cassettes, and maybe lathe-cut vinyl…)

But before I get to any of that, I’ll be playing this Saturday (January 15th) at bela dubby. Full event details can be found here. Hope to see some of you there!

Reissues 3 & 4 & more!

It’s been crazy busy of late. Some important highlights:

I finished the reissues of GLAC-7&11 Saturday night. Since 7 was just one track, and 11 was two, I combined them into a single EP with some bonus material from the vault. Here it is:

(full details here)

Since the next release in line (Radioactive Decay, GLAC-9) was much simpler to put together, I managed to get that mostly finished Sunday night, and polished today. Here’s that for your listening pleasure:

(full details here)

Yes, it’s Name Your Price, but I am accepting zero as a price, at least until I run out of free downloads.

Next up will be the GLAC-18 cassette – I still have plenty of cassettes left, so you’ll be able to get the downloads and the physical product! I hope to have that all sorted and together in a week or two – we’ll see how that goes. Following that will be GLAC-19 (maybe with a CDR option? I did a small promo run of 5 in March, so more could be done), and GLAC-20 (a kind of “best of/rare cuts” compilation with a lot of stuff from the vault). There’s even more in the pipeline after these (a x0xb0x acid tracks album, maybe a live compilation, some C10 singles, and if everything goes swimmingly well, some vinyl!)

I also did a “professional” run of contact microphones (cataloged as GLAC-21) for the WCSB Radiothon (specifically for The Mysterious Black Box show) a few weeks back. The batch of ten ran out in less than 45 minutes. Based on those results, I may be making another batch for sale in the future. Stay tuned.

Also, City/Ruins (Cleveland noise scene documentary that I somehow managed to end up in for ten seconds or something) is premiering on Sunday December 5th at Now That’s Class. I’ll be there. Will you?

Lastly, I recorded and submitted a track for an upcoming local compilation. Hopefully you’ll be hearing more about that soon!

I think that covers most everything going on right now.
