GLAC-25: Acetic
After much work in the last month, the acid collection is complete (on 3/03, no less!). It’s available via Bandcamp as an 18-track download and as a double CD-R. The CD-R version comes in a fancy tin and contains as a bonus my set at the Grog Shop on February 15th.
Unfortunately, I didn’t quite get around to the other two components of the release that I wanted to do- a mix containing all Ohio-based acid house artists I could find, and a KLF-esque road trip driving along the entire length of OH-303 today- I just ran out of time. They may still happen in the future, though.
Administrivia and News of the Future
Lots of things going on of late. A quick recap:
1. Upgrading the FeedWordpress plugin ate a number of the PTB show descriptions from the last three months or so. I recovered some of them. The rest have the generic description again. Yay upgrades.
2. I’ve set up a Facebook page for whatever it is we do here(are we a label? do we build gear? A little of both and then some?), so if you’re a fan of whatever it is we do here and prefer Facebook to these ‘blog’ things, go become a fan there. I promise it won’t be a constant source of annoyance.
3. Expect some announcements of things happening in the future. For instance, I’ll be performing at Bella Dubby in Lakewood on August 21st, as a duo with my friend C. Randolph C. More details soon. Also be on the lookout for the forthcoming cassette released in conjunction with Everyone Else Has A Record Label, So Why Can’t I?, as well as more fun stuff on the horizon.
4. GoatTracker fans- here is a FAR better port of GoatTracker for Mac OS X than mine ever was. Seriously, it’s awesome. I’ll be going back and adding links to this one in my older posts.
5. A quickie on the DIY front – I’m moving right along on a MIDIbox SID. It’s just going to be a single-SID/basic control surface model, but it is moving right along. Hopefully usable & in an enclosure before August 21st…

Let’s try this again
Since people were having issues with my previous OS X/Intel build of Goattracker, I’ve rebuilt it, this time linking SDL statically. It turns out that the earlier build was dynamically linked to finks version of libSDL, which would fail if that weren’t installed.
Download: GoatTracker 2.65 for OS X/Intel.
GoatTracker 2.65 for OS X/Intel
As I’ve mentioned previously, I’m a big fan of the SID tracker GoatTracker. I’ve been running the OSX/PowerPC port of 2.25 (which no longer seems to be on the covertbitops page) since I discovered it at Notacon/Blockparty earlier this year. But 2.25 has its quirks – I’ll be damned if I can figure out how to make something more complicated than a single loop.
I then tried the unofficial port of 2.61 for OS X – I could edit the orderlist, but it was still a PPC binary and seemed kinda slow.
Today I took matters into my own hands. I downloaded 2.65 and built my own OS X/Intel port. You can download it here. It’s not a complicated port – just some modifications to the makefiles, really.
It’s kind of raw still – all the executables are in ./bin, and there’s no fancy .app wrapper for the binary – just run ./bin/goattrk2.
(FWIW, I did try to build as a Universal Binary, but the executable is still only i386 arch. Not sure why yet.)
Update(1/13/2008) - I think the problems people were having should be fixed now. It was previously dynamically linked to fink’s version of libSDL rather than the framework-ized version. The download should now be statically linked to the fink libSDL, and dynamically linked to only standard system libraries/frameworks.

A special chiptune
I decided to whip up a special chiptune today. It’s short and sweet. It’s also my first attempt at making an instrument that uses the pulsetable. The pulse sequence is quite the hit these days. It should go well with the drum loop syntax came up with.
The files:
MP3 format
SID format
GoatTracker .SNG format
GoatTracker .INS format
