November update
Crazy busy so far this month. Played two shows so far (Nov. 6, opening for CLAPS and Kiernan Paradise, and Nov. 12th at the inaugural show (CAVE FEST) at the new and improved Rubber City Noise RCNCAVE). I’ve also made a second batch of contact mics for WCSB’s Radiothon last week, and am contemplating a third for general sale next year.
So, what’s on the horizon, recording-wise:
- GLAC-27 (title/artist TBA): a C20 of synthpop-ish stuff, some of which I’ve been playing out lately. Hopefully ready by December 11th? Two tracks are pretty much ready to go.
- GLAC-25 (glacial23: Acetic): What started as a simple compendium of x0xb0x acid tracks is now shaping up to be something much bigger- a 2 CD set with disc one being the aforementioned compendium and disc 2 being a live-in-the-studio jam. There may also be a super-limited mix collection of Ohio-connected acid tracks and a road trip along the length of OH-303. More details when it’s closer to release (at the current rate, maybe 3/03/2012
) - GLAC-20 (‘The messed of’)- A collection of assorted odd things in the vault. When it’s ready, it’ll be ready. Until then, it’s not ready.
Live-wise, there are three for-sure shows coming up (Nov. 26th, at the 71st Door, Dec. 11th at bela dubby, and Dec. 26th at Pat’s in the Flats), and maybe one in planning stages (more info when I know anything more). If my math is correct, one more beyond that and I’ll be at 24 shows this year- triple my rather meager goal of equaling what I did in 2010. I’ve also got my first booking for 2012, but it’s not until April- I’ll be writing some more about that closer to the event.
October Update #1
OK, my earlier hopes of GLAC-27 coming out any time soon are pretty much dashed. It’ll happen, but the October time frame is pretty much not happening. However, once that’s done, GLAC-25 (an all acid tracks compilation titled ‘Acetic’) should be coming out soon thereafter. It’s about 70% done already, since it’s a collection- just need to make three or four more tracks for it.
There are still a couple of unclaimed Aquacade/Rhyolite cassettes available, so grip ‘em while you still have a chance.
Upcoming live stuff:
-October 12th, bela dubby – with Spacedog, Fragments and fluxmonkey, and Moth Cock.
-October 25th, The Happy Dog- with Watchword, Meager Sunlight, and Skeleton Warrior.
Mid-September 2011 happenings…
Recording: GLAC-26 is pretty much available in the wild now. Two are purchased, four are more-or-less on hold for folks, and four are still available for the gripping (as well as an unlimited quantity of downloads). It was a long march to get it released in the last couple of weeks, as it turned out a) the tape deck I planned to use had a non-functional input, and b) once I got a replacement deck, the tapes I had planned to use were of an incredibly low quality, and refused to record at a reasonable speed. Luckily I had recently purchased some good-quality C20s, and was able to make this a case of putting both tracks on each side, versus the original one track per side planned.
My earlier estimation of an October 9th release of the next tape (GLAC-27) may be a little premature, as it will now be a full C20 instead of a C10. We’ll see what happens. After that is (likely) a split C30 (GLAC-28), but that’s really early in the planning phases.
Live: Played an incredibly anarchic set at Sunday’s Audio/Visual Baptism show pretty much just using my 4-track as an instrument. I had all sorts of feedback issues and just decided to roll with them at some point. Messy, but fun.
I’ll be playing tomorrow, September 14th at bela dubby in Lakewood, along with Michael James (who did a killer drone set at AVB), and Michael Collins (formerly of Prince Rama, but now living in the Cleveland area) and maybe one more performer. I’ll also be doing various and sundry things at Recycled Rainbow next week- as of right now, the only confirmed happening is some sort of performance in conjunction with Eric Alleman.

Two shows, one week
As mentioned in the previous post, I’m playing bela dubby on the 27th. Last week, I was asked to play a show at Pat’s in the Flats on the 24th. Since I haven’t played there in years (maybe in 2004 with The Button? My Live page says May 21, 2004, which was a most excellent show with what’s now Indian Jewelry headlining, but I digress…), I quickly accepted. Now to make each show compelling enough that folks will want to go to both…
My plan is to provide a different experience at each show. Wednesday’s will feature the modular prominently, and Saturday will be more beat driven, with some of the new songs I’ve been working on since May, so it may resemble the show from the 11th or the Grog Shop show. Hints of that sort of stuff may be found at my recent soundcloud uploads.
News update – August edition
- Three shows have happened since the last post- one at SPACES Gallery on May 25th, a house show at “The Rock Hall, Agharta Branch” May 7th, and bela dubby on July 23rd. I’ll be playing again on August 11th and August 27th, both at bela dubby, and doing a piece that will involve tape in some form at the Audio Visual Baptism event at Now That’s Class on September 11. Rumors of more performances in the October time frame have been heard, but nothing’s set in stone yet.
- Parallax and Live at the Grog Shop are now available as a single CD-R, called “22/24″. Available via either of those Bandcamp links or at select shows.
- Debating a name change for dancier/poppier material vs. the noisy experimental stuff. Thought I had a good one lined up, but apparently another local band is using one of the words for their name. Due to this, the August 11th show is just plain booked under my name, which is kind of weird. Stay tuned.
- A pair of C10s are in the works. As soon as I’ve got material and packaging ready, they’ll make their way into the world. There are further release plans, but these things take time…
- Why do these things take time? Well, among other things I took the opportunity after the last show to clean & reorganize the studio space. Once the studio is set up “right”, hopefully material will flow a little better. That’s the theory, anyway.
- Hey, look- new look on the website. Probably not permanent. Also started a page for documenting live appearances.
